[edit] reliable versions
The peer review section cautions well against the changeability of articles, but maybe we should point out a way to view the article as it was when FA or other status was last reviewed, as in the CD for schools highlighted at the top of this talk-page and release versions as well ? [edit] Minor Grammar Error
"...Our active community of editors uses tools such..." should be changed to "...Our active community of editors use tools such..." (simply removing the s). Thanks, Eric-Wester (talk) 02:39, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- That depends on the English dialect. I don't care either way though. If I change it, someone will eventually complain that it should be singular, and the cycle will go on and on. Graham87 03:12, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Location of servers
{{editprotected}} Since, I think, the physical location of WM's servers also relocated can someone change it from Florida to California? A change is also needed on Wikipedia:Content disclaimer. Thanks. -- Mentisock 12:19, 22 October 2008 (UTC)
- No, the servers haven't moved; only the offices have moved. The Wikimedia Foundation projects were down for eleven hours when the main servers were moved across the street, so I'd hate to think how long the downtime would be if those servers were moved across the U.S. Graham87 15:51, 22 October 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Confused by syntax
I'm usually pretty good with parsing legalese, but I'm not sure the first sentence in the section "No contract; limited license" is grammatical. It would make sense if there were a period after "sister projects", and I don't know how to relate "subject to your claims against them directly" with what comes before. Is "subject to..." a complement of "agreement or contract"? Is it an inadvertently blended sentence? It's not that I want it explained, I'm just trying to alert to what I think could possibly be a defect. -- Unconventional (talk) 04:40, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
[edit] edit protected
I just wanted to mention that I am documented as the 33rd SAC president for David and Mary Thomson. Unfortunately my name has been spelled incorrectly (which has been an ongoing mishap my entire life!). It has been written as Jennie Allen, when it is actually Jeannie Allen. If this could be corrected, I would be forever grateful. If you need to contact me, I can be reached at <phone number removed> or my email address: <email address removed to combat against spambots>.
Sincerely, Jeannie Allen-Carveth —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.39.23.239 (talk) 00:58, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
- Hi Jeannie, thanks for informing us about the error. I've corrected the page for you. A more appropriate place for this question, where you would have received a faster response, is Wikipedia's help desk. Regards, Graham87 08:32, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Interwiki

[edit] George Went Hensley information on Sebring Florida wensite
≤{{{}}}I am Mayor George Leslie Hensley Jr. of Sebring FL. You have linked me to George WENT Hensley of Virginia and North Carolina on the City if Sebring FL. website. I have no knowledge of this person and I am not a snake handler and never have been. This person is not a relative of mine. Please remove the reference of George Went Hensley from the City of Sebring website as this is embarassing for me. Thanks, George Leslie Hensley Jr. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.68.8.163 (talk • contribs) 19:22, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
- I'm not sure what you're talking about. no articles about Florida link to George Went Hensley. If you're talking about the George Hensley redirect, then I can't do anything about that. A better place to ask this would be the help desk. Graham87 09:41, 7 April 2009 (UTC)
[edit] A little thing to do

[edit] link to Non-Wikipedia disclaimers?
Would it be possible to mention and link to Wikipedia:Non-Wikipedia disclaimers so as to avoid the misunderstanding mentioned on said page? --Cybercobra (talk) 05:56, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
- I can't think of a good place to put it. A see also section for one item seems clunky. Graham87 12:14, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
- How about at the end of the 2nd paragraph? Something like: "Note that most other encyclopedias also have similar disclaimers." --Cybercobra (talk) 17:47, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
- OK, I've put it there; I added mention of reference works to the senteence because they're also mentioned in the non-Wikipedia disclaimers page. Graham87 08:49, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
- Excellent! Grazi. --Cybercobra (talk) 09:08, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Alternatives to Censorship?
From my user subpage:
I was thinking about forcing users to sign in in order to view the content (Apparently Youtube has recently adopted this practice[1][2]) or creating other obstacles to the content. Also,
in response to WP:DISCLAIM, I propose that the disclaimer link be moved to somewhere around the top of the page.per Greenprint's statement in the "More visibility" section of an archive of the talk page of Wikipedia's General Disclaimer, "I suggest to put the disclaimer link in the main menu. Currently the link is at the bottom and very difficult to find considering the disclaimer importance," I propose moving the disclaimer link to the "interaction" box at the left side of the page. This will make it more prominent and increase the chances of users, especially noobs, knowing the existence of such disclaimers. No one is going to, after seeing an obscene article, all of a sudden note the link to the disclaimer at the bottom of the page.
Norsehorse89 (talk) 04:29, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
Oh yeah... Unfortunately, I won't be surprised if my first proposition is not adopted, 'cuz apparently there are just too many contributors who think any and all arguments for child safety on Wikipedia can be answered with WP:NPOV or WP:NOTCENSORED. I'll just give a shoutout, though, to Mr. Jimbo Wales, and hope that he sees my other suggestion... Norsehorse89 (talk) 06:16, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Add cs
{{editprotected}} Hi, please add cs interwiki: [[cs:Wikipedie:Vyloučení odpovědnosti]]. Thank you, --Podzemnik (talk) 12:13, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
- Done, thanks. Amalthea 12:30, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Shouty capitals
Is there really any good reason why the titles of these articles have to be in horrible ALL CAPITALS? Chzz ► 07:55, 7 June 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Licensing update
I have incorporated CC-BY-SA in keeping with the June 15 2009 licensing update. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:08, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Prominence
I think a prominent shortened version of such a disclaimer should be placed at the top of every Wikipedia article (it used to always say "Wikipeda - the Encyclopedia anyone can edit" - now it doesn't even say that - IMO it should go even further). There are far to many ignorant people that take Wikipedia information at face value, and do not even realise that anyone can add their own information, and bias - bias that is easy to insert by whoever shouts the loudest and knows how to game the system. In it's current form (without an obvious disclaimer on every page), I cannot wholeheartedly recommend any friend or relative to rely on Wikipedia. Jonto (talk) 23:07, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
- Perhaps Jimmy Wales thinks that such a prominent disclaimer would undermine the encyclopaedia, and make the start of the articles look less aesthetic, or somehow undermine its reputation. However, such a change would make me much more inclined to recommend Wikipedia to others. As things stand, the lack of a prominent and clear disclaimer on every page just makes me tell people to AVOID Wikipedia information whenever possible. Jonto (talk) 23:17, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
- So, you would recommend wikipedia with no warning, if there was a prominent disclaimer? Perhaps a disclaimer could simply take the form of a link to this page, instead of an ugly looking header? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Yash Vaidya (talk • contribs) 11:13, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
