Wikipedia:WikiProject Latter Day Saint movement
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[edit] Scope
This is a WikiProject on elements of the Latter Day Saint movement, Mormonism, Latter Day Saint history, doctrine, practices, and other cultural effects inspired by Joseph Smith, Jr..
See also: List_of_articles_about_Mormonism
This project is closely related to Wikipedia:WikiProject Utah and Wikipedia:WikiProject Brigham Young University
[edit] Project Style Guidelines
See:
- Wikipedia:Manual of Style (Latter Day Saints)
- Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Latter Day Saints)
- Standards for Temples
- Standards for Navigation boxes
Some quick points to remember:
- Articles wholly pertaining to the Latter Day Saint movement should be parenthesized "(Latter Day Saints)", unless the article name is unambiguous without the parenthetical.
- Articles should not be limited to a single Latter Day Saint denomination, unless including the entire Latter Day Saint movement is impractical or awkward. For example, instead of "Restoration (Community of Christ)" or "Restoration (LDS Church)", you would call the article Restoration (Latter Day Saints).
- In article names, references to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints should capitalize the initial The and include a hyphen and a lower-case "d".
- In general, use the term Mormon or its derivatives only when referring to people or denominations with historical ties to Utah-based The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
- Deadlinks are discouraged as they tend to attract POV material on religious subjects.
- Apply the {{LDS-stub}} boilerplate message at the end of stubs.
[edit] Timeline
There's a timeline based on LDS (1850s-on) and Mormonism (centuries and 1820s-1840s) in general. For specific dates (eg, June 1, 1944) you should link normally. You should also show a link to the timeline somewhere on the page (probably in "see also" or in See ... bits) as appropriate. You can start here to see the timeline: 19th century (Mormonism).

[edit] Requests for comment and Polls
[edit] Requests for comment
There is very serious debate going on at Golden plates that may need attention from editors who can help. Some editors are interested in turning the article towards mythical language, and attempting to create new history on them. Check it out ASAP. Twunchy (talk) 17:31, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Polls
Polls are used to create guidelines for this WikiProject and its corresponding articles by consensus of the contributors.

[edit] Departments
- Assessment - the assessment unit.
[edit] To do
- Place the {{LDSproject}} banner on all relevant articles.
- Place all relevant articles on the list at Wikipedia:WikiProject Latter Day Saint movement/Articles by category.
- Check recent changes for recent improvements, vandalism, and other changes.
- Create a navigational template for articles relating to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Coordinate this effort with {{LDS movement}} so that they work together for navigational purposes and do not compete. See User:NThurston/sandbox/test for a preliminary effort.

[edit] Create/Collaborate
- Zarahemla. Unorganized, unencyclopedic, and not totally accurate. Could use a lot of attention, may be a good collaboration ... the most prominent city in The Book of Mormon surely deserves more than this. 24.124.20.216 (talk) 12:04, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Accuracy disputed
Second Anointing Bueger is unreliable source see analysis. Most of the article seems to cite his work. Should find more accurate information or remove the article.
[edit] Neutrality questioned
- Joseph Smith, Jr. - It is requested that this article be reviewed to make it more neutral. A Google search of "Joseph Smith" brings this article up as the first search result, so it is important that is accurate and balanced. Please, help review and edit this article.

[edit] Script-generated to-do lists
[edit] /Articles needed
553 red links compiled from nearly all of the articles in the Category:Mormonism hierarchy. I've listed the Mormonism-related articles that employ each red link because many of them are obvious mistakes that should be fixed on the page. Some should also be redirects to prevent similar mistakes in the future. I've also listed the number of main namespace links-to.
Many of these have nothing whatsoever to do with the Latter Day Saint movement, but I believe this list is interesting. Many secular links need to be fixed anyway.
Make intentions to write articles known on the project page — Cool Hand Luke 07:36, 2 Mar 2005 (UTC)
[edit] /Requested stubs
This list compiled from Category:LDS stubs, listed in order of number of links-to, excluding wikilinks from user pages and wikipedia namespace. Note that the {{LDS-stub}} template causes every LDS stub to have a self-referential link. Therefore, every article has one less link-to than this list shows. Thus, articles listed her have one less link-to than it would appear. Therefore the articles with "1" link-to are in fact orphans. Cool Hand Luke 07:36, 2 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Heh. this dif shows that Mormon (prophet) is now beating Spencer W. Kimball for links. Meanwhile, Hyrum Smith has gained nine links since November, jumping up into the top ten. Cool Hand Luke 07:45, 2 Mar 2005 (UTC)
