Welcome to the Military biography work group/task force of the Biography WikiProject and the Military history WikiProject! The military history coordinators for this task force are Jackyd101 (talk), Abraham, B.S. (talk) and Maralia (talk).
Contents |
[edit] Scope
This group covers all biographies of military personnel. (Note that merely having served in a military—particularly in a nation with universal military service—may not necessarily make someone a military person; see the Military history WikiProject's description of scope for more details.)
[edit] Participants
Please remember to also add your name to the main list of project members for Military history and Biography if you are not yet listed there. This list will be updated periodically and editors who have not edited Wikipedia for six months will be removed. If your name is not here, please simply add it again.

Note: When using parameters, avoid the ambiguous abbreviation "N/A", and instead use "unknown" or "none". All subjective or qualitative judgements and numerical quantities or statistics must be cited to a reliable source (see WP:MILMOS#CITE).
- name – the full name of the person.
- image – optional – an image of the person. The image must be given in the form [[Image:Example.jpg|300px]]; in particular, the thumb attribute must not be selected.
- caption – optional – the text to be placed below the image.
- born – optional – the date of birth, if known, using {{Birth date}} or {{Birth date and age}}. For unusual cases, such as where only dates of activities are known, the lived parameter may be used instead.
- died – optional – the date of death, if applicable and known, in {{Death date and age}}.
- placeofbirth – optional – the person's birthplace.
- placeofdeath – optional – the place where the person died.
- placeofburial – optional – the place where the person's remains are buried or otherwise interred.
- placeofburial_label – optional – the label to use for the placeofburial field (above); this is intended to be used in cases where the remains were disposed of in a manner other than burial, and defaults to "Resting place" if not set.
- placeofburial_coordinates – optional – the precise location where the person's remains are buried or otherwise interred. For coordinates, use {{coord}} with display=inline, title. Please do not be overly precise.
- nickname – optional – nickname(s) by which the person was known.
- allegiance – optional – the country or other power the person served. Multiple countries may be indicated together with the corresponding dates. This field should not be used to indicate a particular service branch, which is better indicated by the
branchfield (below). - branch – optional – the service branch (Army, Navy, etc.) the person was a part of; this should be left blank for people who were not part of a formal armed service, or who predate the establishment of formal service branches.
- serviceyears – optional – the years during which the person served.
- rank – optional – the highest rank achieved by the person. Unusual cases, such as this rank not being the last achieved, or the rank being awarded posthumously, may be noted. In cases where the person held different ranks in different armies, multiple ranks should be specified with a date and country note for each.
- unit – optional – for persons who are not notable as commanding officers, the unit (company, battalion, regiment, etc.) in which they served. This should be omitted if the commands are specified (as above).
- commands – optional – for persons who are notable as commanding officers, the units they commanded. Dates should be given if multiple notable commands were held.
- battles – optional – any notable battles or wars in which the person participated. This should be omitted if a campaignbox is used in conjunction with this template.
- awards – optional – any notable awards or decorations the person received.
- relations – optional – any notable relations. Only reasonably close ones should be indicated; an exhaustive listing of an extensive family tree should be avoided here.
- laterwork – optional – profession or positions held by the person other than military service (displays with the label "Other work").
