I think 8 is enough to get things going. It seems from the comments below that the Salt Lake City Public Library is the best place for everyone. Anyone have any suggestions for when? I think October 11 would be good for me, around 3pm or so. Perhaps for an hour so we don't take too much time (and so people don't feel they have to be there for a long time). Thoughts? ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 06:56, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
- My only issue is that I work late on Thu/Fri, so I wouldn't be able to make it. --Admrboltz (talk) 15:47, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
- October 11 is a Saturday, though. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 03:43, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
- Shows what happens when I don't have a calender in front of me... I could take a lil time off work to do it probably. --Admrboltz (talk) 03:44, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
- Saturday, Oct 11 at 3pm would be fine for me. It will be to nice to meet all of you. Hopefully most of us who have signed up can attend at that time. Davehi1
- Aw man, I'm working Saturday between 10 and 3. Can we do it at 4pm? Useight (talk) 16:53, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
- That's fine with me. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 21:08, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
- Scratch that. I got a date so I can't make it. Useight (talk) 13:43, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
-
- I was unable to get time off from work today >< --Admrboltz (talk) 15:14, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
Well, it seems today won't be good for the people who've responded (other than me). Since I can meet myself at any time, I recommend aiming for another time. Anyone have any thoughts? ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 18:15, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
- I emailed Davehi1 to make sure he knew. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 18:18, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
- Sometime before it snows would be best. Useight (talk) 22:43, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
[edit] New meetup discussion
Okay, so the last one didn't turn out so well. I can meet on Saturdays generally, anytime before 6pm. It seems that the SLCPL is the best place to meet, and it's something everyone should be able to find easily enough (SE corner of 400 S and 200 E). November 8 would be good for me, and it may not be snowing then. Anyone else have any thoughts on that date? ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 03:45, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
- I usually work on Saturday mornings, so as long as we don't meet too early I should be able to make it. But I hate driving in the snow, so if the freeway is covered, count me out. Useight (talk) 16:05, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
[edit] A third attempt
Well, it still hasn't snowed, what say you all about trying once again to orchestrate a meetup? Useight (talk) 20:54, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
- I'm up for that. Unfortunately, the most convenient day for me would be a Sunday, and I'm doubting that's good for anyone else. I'll see what I can do about other times. I don't care if it's snowing, as long as the plows are out. —Preceding unsigned comment added by GreenGlass1972 (talk • contribs)
- A Sunday would work fine for me. Useight (talk) 00:20, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
- I would prefer a Saturday as Sundays tend to be pretty busy for me. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 04:53, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
- I'm good for either, as I'm no longer working Saturdays. Useight (talk) 05:56, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
- I am going out of state this weekend and will not be returning until sometime in early January. Just FYI. Useight (talk) 00:42, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Suggested locations to meet
- Wasatch Front (basically somewhere from Payson on the south to Ogden on the north)
- Salt Lake City Public Library - across street from Library TRAX station, via TRAX.
- I would support the SLCPL. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 07:12, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
- The SLCPL would be a good place to meet. Davehi1
- How about meeting at the tables by the stairs that go down to the meeting rooms outside the library itself (though inside the building, on the walkway between the library proper and the little shops. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 02:52, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- But when? November 8th? Useight (talk) 05:36, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
- Well, that's the date I was suggesting. I'll plan on being there at 4pm if anyone wants to show up. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 06:08, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
- I can make it, but would it just be the two of us? It's not a ten minute drive for me. Useight (talk) 16:58, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
- Who knows? I'm down in Meeting Room D at the moment, though I'll be going up to the top of the stairs at 4pm. I'm wearing a black MileHiCon 40 shirt. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 21:12, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry I didn't make it. For me to justify a 45 minute drive each way, I'd want to be meeting a slightly larger group. Useight (talk) 18:12, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
- No problem. We'll have to work on another date, likely after the first of the year. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 23:08, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
[edit] A fourth attempt
Okay, let's get the ball rolling. I'm good with pretty much any day of the week and any time of the day because I just finished school and haven't landed a job yet. Anyone have a good day/time they'd like to do a meetup? What do you guys think of Saturday the 17th or Sunday the 18th? Are public places open on Sundays in Salt Lake? Useight (talk) 04:40, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
- Saturdays are best for me, so the 17th would be fine. Any time after noon and before 6pm is good. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 05:18, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
-
- All right, Saturday the 17th at noon! We'll figure out how to get Useight a job! Where should we meet? GreenGlass1972 (talk) 02:29, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- Sounds like a good time to me. I'll be there. But where is "there"? Our last talks ended with the Salt Lake City Public Library as a good place, which is apparently at 210 East 400 South. What do you guys think? Useight (talk) 05:21, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- What about Logan Public Library? Would that possibly be feasible? - Until It Sleeps 05:28, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- That's at least a two hour drive for me, Salt Lake would be much better. Useight (talk) 05:33, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- Ach, thats my reason for wanting it in Logan. - Until It Sleeps 05:39, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- Hmm, based on Google Maps, looks like Logan is about 80 miles from Salt Lake. I'm about 45 miles from Salt Lake and about 120 miles from Logan. I think Nihonjoe is close to Salt Lake somewhere. Useight (talk) 05:55, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- What about, say, Ogden or Brigham City? If it's any farther than that, I won't be able to go. Not until after the middle of February. - Until It Sleeps 05:58, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- I guess I could do as far north as Ogden. Hopefully GreenGlass and Nihonjoe will relay their opinions soon. Useight (talk) 06:04, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- I live in Ogden, and I'm actually NOT voting for having it here, at least not at the library. I think Logan is too far for just about everyone except Until It Sleeps, especially if it's snowing. I like the SLC Public Library, but don't want anyone left out. Since I don't have a solution to this, I can work with whatever the rest of the group decides. GreenGlass1972 (talk) 23:10, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- I would strongly prefer Salt Lake over Ogden, that would cut my travel time in half, but I could do either. Logan is practically in Idaho and isn't even along I-15. Useight (talk) 23:22, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- Hey guys. Mom's not letting me drive all the way out to Ogden. >.>. So I can't go until after mid February. Sorry. Until It Sleeps 23:35, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- I think the SLC Public Library would be the most central. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 02:06, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
- Sounds like the SLC Public Library is best for GreenGlass, Nihonjoe, and me, and since Until It Sleeps can't make it, sounds like that's the best place for the meetup. Does the SLC Library on the 17th at noon sound good to everyone? Useight (talk) 02:16, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
- Sounds good. How will we know each other? GreenGlass1972 (talk) 02:18, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
<outdent> Well, I've never been to that library, so perhaps someone who has knows of a good, specific place to meet. Or I could wander around with a sign that says, "I'm Useight". Useight (talk) 02:31, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
- Yes! I like the sign idea! Not because it would be effective, but because it would be hilarious. Unfortunately, that library is huge and we won't find each other wandering around. Several months ago Nihonjoe suggested, "How about meeting at the tables by the stairs that go down to the meeting rooms outside the library itself (though inside the building, on the walkway between the library proper and the little shops." I think that would work and would be easy to find even if you haven't been to that library before. GreenGlass1972 (talk) 02:58, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
- So these stairs are inside the building? If you see a guy standing around in that general area scratching his head...Useight (talk)
- Yes, they're inside. They can be viewed here. When you enter the library, you'll be in the main walkway visible in the photo. There will be a variety of small shops on the north side (seen at the right and top sides of the photo), and I believe the stairs he's talking about are at the bottom center, opposite the shops. Another angle can be viewed here. Does that help? I'm a heavy, balding guy, who looks just like the kind of nerd who would spend his evenings editing Wikipedia. I'll most likely be scratching my goatee instead of my head though. GreenGlass1972 (talk) 03:26, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
- That helps a lot. That library is huge. Useight (talk) 03:46, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
- Um, so I'm at the SLC library. I've been wandering around near the shops. I'm wearing a red shirt and a gray jacket. Useight's Public Sock (talk) 19:34, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, I forgot my wife was using the car today, so I have no way to get there. <grumble> ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 20:15, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
- Looks like GreenGlass isn't going to make an appearance, either. I guess I'll just take off. Useight's Public Sock (talk) 20:27, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
- I was there, I just didn't see anyone who looked like they were waiting around. I was wearing jeans and a red sweatshirt and drinking coffee. Sorry I missed you. Were you carrying bags or reading a "Complete Idiots Guide"? Those were the only two people I saw who might be there for the meetup but neither one made eye contact with me so I didn't talk to them. I'm disappointed we couldn't talk.GreenGlass1972 (talk) 00:53, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
- I was walking up and down the hallway that looked like this. There were a fair number of people sitting at the tables, but none appeared to be balding, heavy, and with a goatee. After a while I did go back a sign that said "Useight" and carried it up and down a few times asking people if they recognized it. Then I sat at one of the tables and played with a Rubik's Cube with the sign on the table. Then I left. Useight (talk) 01:01, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
- Okay, I TOTALLY would have noticed all of that. Were you there at noon? I was there from 11:40AM to 12:30. GreenGlass1972 (talk) 23:30, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
- Nah, got there a bit late, about 12:15 or 12:20. Took me a while to figure out which building was the library and where to park my car. Useight (talk) 23:31, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
- I guess I left too early. Sorry, I should have been more patient. GreenGlass1972 (talk) 01:01, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Just starting up the discussion again. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 07:04, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
[edit] May 2009
I will be running an art show May 22-24 at the downtown Radisson. If people want to set up a time then to come there, we could meet there and you could see the show (and perhaps attend the convention, too). Sound good? Hopefully this one will work since our previous attempts seem to have failed for one reason or another. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 23:08, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
- I'll be there, work schedule permitting. I'll find out what schedule I'll be working some time next week. I assume that "the downtown Radisson" means some place in Salt Lake? Useight (talk) 23:25, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, the downtown Radisson is on South Temple right by the Salt Palace. There are no other tall buildings right next to it, so you can't miss it. It's the one that got hit by the tornado (it was the Wyndham Hotel at the time). ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 23:33, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
-
- I'm all for it. And glad to hear Useight got a job! GreenGlass1972 (talk) 01:32, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
- :( I can't go, I'm doing a whole bunch of other stuff around the end of May... Until It Sleeps 04:57, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
- You're welcome to drop by anytime on Friday, Saturday, or early on Sunday as I'll be there the whole time. For me, the best times to have people come so everyone would be there at the same time (and therefore be able to meet each other and not just me) would be on Saturday around midday or Saturday later in the evening say 8pm or so). ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 09:22, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
- Okay, so I'll be working 10am to 6:30pm on Friday and Saturday (assuming I don't find a higher paying job between now and then), so I'd be good for the evenings of Friday or Saturday or anytime Sunday. Useight (talk) 01:56, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
- Just a reminder that at least some of us will be at the convention. If anyone wants to help set up the art show I'm running, feel free to stop by on the second floor there at about 7pm on Thursday. :) ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 04:17, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- Hmm, I have Thursday's off, so that might work, unless the Survivor finale is that night. My work schedule has changed slightly, so I actually get off at 6pm. In order to meet as many people as possible, which would be better, Friday or Saturday evening? Useight (talk) 05:47, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- For me, either would be fine. I don't know how many people are planning on stopping by. There will be more people at the con on Saturday, so that may be best. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 07:19, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- I'll be there Saturday at 8pm. Useight (talk) 15:06, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
- I think I'll be there at 8 too. How will I know you?GreenGlass1972 (talk) 19:23, 23 May 2009 (UTC)
- I'll be on the second floor, looking for Nihonjoe's art show. I'll be wearing a red shirt and cargo shorts. I'll pull out a sign that says "Useight" if necessary. Useight (talk) 22:58, 23 May 2009 (UTC)
