  • A poll is up at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Ireland_Collaboration/Poll on Ireland (xxx). This is a vote on what option or options could be added in the poll regarding the naming of the Ireland and Republic of Ireland and possibly the Ireland (disambiguation) pages. The order that the choices appear in the list has been generated randomly. Sanctions for canvassing, forum shopping, ballot stuffing, sock puppetry, meat puppetry will consist of a one-month ban, which will preclude the sanctioned from participating in the main poll which will take place after this one. Voting will end at 21:00 (UTC) of the evening of 1 July 2009 (that is 22:00 IST and BST). -- Evertype· 18:13, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
  • Is there a wikiproject on Industrial schools? I did a bit of work summarising history of St Joseph's Industrial School, Letterfrack from the Ryan report and started a page on Artane Industrial school. There is a lot of information on the background to these institutions in the report as well as the investigations. One thing that concerns me is that Industrial school seems to have sections copied straight from the Ryan report, which may be a serious copyright problem. I'm unsure about what would count as fair use, but this seems excessive. Autarch (talk) 19:48, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] To Do

edit · history · watch · refresh  To-do list for Wikipedia:Irish Wikipedians' notice board:
Please keep these lists alphabetical!

To start

To seriously rework

  • Clare Island should get a decent coverage of original (1909-11) Clare Island Survey as well as cover the recent second such survey.
  • Irish Reunification - appalling POV stuff. Needs total rewrite or binning.
  • Irish Republicanism - more appalling POV stuff. The Northern Ireland section is a sectarian rant.
  • Labour Party (Ireland). Probably the worst of the articles on Irish political parties, exclusively focused on the party's history and deals with that pretty unevenly. Needs a rewrite using serious sources and more info on Labour as a political player now, policies, organization etc.
  • Languages of the Republic of Ireland - you might think English was the only language of the British Isles not spoken in much of Ireland.
  • National College of Ireland. There was an article. I remember adding the fact that it was initially called the "Catholic Workers College" (which doesn't seem to be recorded elsewhere on the web) But it seems to have vanished! ClemMcGann 08:25, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
  • The Late Late Show - dePOVing needed.
  • Sean Ó Riada Had some serious POV problems. I've reverted the worst of it, but the article still lacks information on his notability.
  • Home Nations Has some serios POV problems - can someone take a look?
  • Nationality of people from the United Kingdom - removing references to Ireland - can someone take a look to make sure I'm not being too over-enthusiastic.

[edit] Wikipedia as Gaeilge

A chairde, There really are a depressingly small number of contributors to the wikipedia project in Irish with probably a maximum of 50 or so edits a day, often by the same users. It would be wonderful if you who know so much about Irish affairs and have such interest would (if you speak Irish, of course) help translate articles and create new ones. We have far too many stumpaí, in fact almost half of all articles. A bit of enthusiasm from a few new contributors could really help the project.
I'm sitting my Leaving Certificate now and have found writing for ga.wiki really helped my standard of Irish, I also learned a lot from reading other pages. Your Irish doesn't need to be good to contribute - even if it's only adding categories or interwikis. If you can't remember a word, I recommend EnglishIrishDictionary.com for cross-referencing. Go n-éirí libh, and keep up the good work.

  • A chara, I have contributed a few articles, but my Gaeilge is not perfect in terms of grammar which is why I have not contributed more. Would it be possible to simply write articles in hopes that someone at Vicipéid will look over them?--Theosony (talk) 18:13, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
  • Wow, that reply was a long time coming... does there be any activity over here at all? --candlewicke 03:53, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

Very little activity goes on to tell the truth. I have created some pages and have cleaned up many more but the same users are seen over and over again. I hope that Vicipéid eventually breaks the 10,000 article barrier, but unless more people join that will never happen. And as one of the riarthóirí (admins) on the Irish Wikipedia said, you acheive a lot more on the Irish Wikipedia with the same time and effort than on the English version.(Footyfanatic3000 (talk) 22:37, 5 May 2009 (UTC)) (nó ga:Úsáideoir:Footyfanatic3000)
