[edit] Hey!

I just wanted to say how wonderful it is to see you editing again. We've missed you, mate. :) — neuro(talk)(review) 23:05, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

Miss you too :( Steve Crossin Talk/24 23:07, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the comments, and nice to see that you're back here, Steve. I remain pretty busy off-wiki and, though I keep an eye on some things and comment where I can, I still have no plans to return to regular editing on enwiki. WJBscribe (talk) 23:42, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

Welcome back Will ! -- Tinu Cherian - 06:12, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
Nice to see you back, even in a limited capacity. I hope that your off-wiki work goes well, and that I'll see you at a meetup one of these days to thank you for your support of my RfA/other general bits of kindness (the currency for "thanks" currently being the pint). Ironholds (talk) 06:11, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Sandbox

I do not imagine that you want to comment or merely observe silently as the thread unfolds at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#Attack page.

On the other hand, you do have time to savour my thanks for good advice offered in 2007 which now, in due course, comes to maturity. It can only be seen as heartening and gratifying to discover that the patiently planted seeds taking hold and thriving in adverse conditions. --Tenmei (talk) 00:58, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Bluntness and CHU overturns

Hi, Will. Glad to see you back on the wiki. I certainly agree that perhaps my bluntness was impolitic, but in my opinion the rename function of bureaucrat position is not one that calls for a great deal of politicking, thought, or discussion. Most renames should be processed unless they violate the username policy explicitly. To discuss something as trivial as a minor personal preference rename being questioned for no real reason violates the principles of practicality and the desire to focus on encyclopedia development as the focus of editing. I don't want to see renames overpoliticized as RfA is. Andre (talk) 00:47, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Processing a rename isn't a reversal of a decision because no decision was made. A "not done" isn't like a "keep," because there is no consensus judging or argument parsing required, merely a cut and dry application of the username policy. When that policy is clearly and obviously misinterpreted (i.e., a username which does not fall under "Company/group names" but rather is a product trademark with the addition of Boy and a number), it should be corrected as soon as possible for the maximum benefit of the user requesting the rename, not mired in discussion and bureaucracy. Glad to see you, even if for just a bit. Drop by whenever you've got time (my talk page is pretty neglected these days). Heimstern Läufer (talk) 05:12, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Seeking help in presenting thoughts clearly

I write to ask for prospective help. In a sense, I'm only interested laying the foundation for the I-don't-know-what in the future. Perhaps this may be construed as taking steps to avert problems might be mitigated by a timely comment or suggestion ...?

[edit] ArbCom remedy

Voting is underway at Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Tang Dynasty/Proposed decision. In part because of "Evidence presented by Caspian blue", the locus of dispute was modified and "evidence in the case has expanded to include other disputes in which Tenmei has been involved." You will be surprised to learn that WJBscribe has anything at all to do with this so-called "evidence" at "Tenmei's wikihounding and trolling". I don't think this timeless prose is worth struggling to read, but I mention the links to explain a bit more of the reasons why I'm reaching out to you specifically

ArbCom findings of fact included:

  • 3.2.2 Tenmei and dispute resolution. "... many of Tenmei's talkpage posts and submissions during this arbitration case have been very difficult for other editors to understand, to the point that experienced participants in dispute resolution have had difficulty in following them, despite what we accept as Tenmei's good-faith best efforts to assist us in resolving the case."

ArbCom remedies included:

  • 3.3.2 Tenmei and dispute resolution: "Should Tenmei become involved in any further disputes with other editors, whether concerning the content of articles (beyond ordinary day-to-day editing issues) or more formal dispute resolution procedures, he shall seek the assistance of a volunteer mentor or adviser to work with him in maximizing the value of his presentation by assisting him with formulating it in a clear and civil fashion."
  • 3.3.3 Editors advised: "Editors who encounter difficulties in communicating with others on-wiki are advised to seek help from others in presenting their thoughts clearly, particularly when disputes arise or when dispute resolution is sought."

It is clear that ArbCom anticipates future difficulties; and I guess I need to do the same. Arguably, my previous postings on your talk page are congruent with exactly the sort of thing ArbCom wants me to do in future; and I'm willing to invest in learning about how to disagree without being disagreeable.

If you want to discuss this off-wiki, I'm working on figuring out how to set up an appropriate e-mail address.. -- Tenmei (talk) 17:21, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

I'm afraid I'm no longer around enough to be able to advise you either as to what has been going wrong so far or how should express yourself in future. I think it is important that you acknowledge any criticism ArbCom make of your conduct and, if you are unsure about what you need to do to address them, ask them to help you. You might for example ask for one or several "mentors" to be appointed to guide you in future - an experience user who has the time available to guide you in future. That person would be able to answer questions when you feel you are in difficulty and to review your edits to see if you may be risking getting into trouble again. I hope that is of some help, I'm sorry that I'm not in a postion to offer more detailed advice. WJBscribe (talk) 21:58, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] As promised...

The Crat Stats Barnstar
I award you this Barnstar in recognition of all your work in updating the exceedingly fiddly calculations at the crat stats page. Thank you for doing a job no-one else wants to do. --Dweller (talk) 10:09, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
Yes, the point about no one else wanting to do it is certainly true - apparently it's the only one of my functions for which I haven't been replaced over the last 6 months. Presumably even the bots have refused to do it... WJBscribe (talk) 22:28, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
The main thing that's not been replaced cannot be and certainly not by a bot - and that's your personality and opinions, both of which are welcomed. But you're right, the bot operators have looked at this task a few times and each time initial enthusiasm has quickly dimmed to bewilderment and defeat. But I'd rather have you back and active than have this updated. Anyway, enjoy the Barny. --Dweller (talk) 09:26, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Spartacus!

I changed my name in February... it was somthing that I had been talking about for a while... just hadn't decided on a name... when somebody nominated me for deletion in December, I saw another person (Iamawesome800) who was told they needed to change their names.... so we started throwing out new names for them. Somebody suggested he should become "I'm Spartacus!" I loved the idea... but I wanted to wait long enough that it was clear that I was not changing my name due to the failed RfB... as for you and your 'crat tools... as far as most are concerned... all you have to do is ask for them back.---I'm Spartacus! NO! I'm Spartacus! 01:13, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Crat Flag

Please ask for it back. It's self evident why we need your calm collected judgement (and that's nothing to do with the fact that we seem to hold the same "side" terrible word over the current issue at BN). I was clearly mistaken several months ago regarding your actions, and I offer my apologies. Pedro :  Chat  20:00, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

Careful you don't speak too quickly - this may just be part of cunning plan on my part to win you over...
Seriously though, I appreciate the apology. Whilst there were no hard feelings on my part for the comments you made (everyone has a right to an opinion, however unpalatable to others), I did wish that you had discussed what was bothering you with me beforehand.
I will be reviewing things at the end of the month, and will give some thought as to whether I have enough time to spare to become a little more active again. WJBscribe (talk) 21:48, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
My thanks for you acceptance of my apology, and your considerable good grace. I was wrong in my opinion, very wrong, and I am more than happy to state so publicly. Again, your calming influence is always appreciated - and if you do have the time to occasionaly use the extra tools then why not regain them? If you don't feel the need then at least one can hope for occasional input when you have time. After all, having solid reasoning is nothing whatsoever to do with holding certain "rights" on a website. Pedro :  Chat  20:02, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
