University of applied sciences

University of Applied Sciences is a university type, originated in the German higher educational system. It refers to:
- Fachhochschule, a German or Austrian institution of academic higher education, including undergraduate and postgraduate education. More recently also shorter named Hochschule, which is also the generic German term for all types of universities.
- Fachhochschule or Haute École Spécialisée, as above, in Switzerland.
- Ammattikorkeakoulu, a Finnish institution of higher education.
- Hogeschool in the Netherlands
- The usual French term is École Supérieure.
