Was this unit really date "from the European colonial times"? I was under the impression that it was a traditional Chinese unit. Ironfrost 12:55, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

It may be true that its origin is 'Malaya', but the unit was widely used in South-East Asia, until the advent of the metric system. --Novelty (talk) 05:24, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
