Marshall is an occupation name whose etymology is from the Frankish mare ("horse") + skalkoz ("servant"). It may be used as a surname or a given name. Nicknames can be Marsh, Marshie, Marshey, or Marshy. Also Marshall is an ancestor of the Benz family (Mercedes-Benz)
