Maria Elisabeth Lämmerhirt (February 24, 1644 – May 1, 1694) was the mother of eight children, and the wife of Johann Ambrosius Bach. Her most famous son was Johann Sebastian Bach. Maria Elisabeth was a daughter of a furrier and town councillor in Erfurt, one Valentin Lämmerhirt. Maria Elisabeth's sister, Martha Dorothea, became the mother of composer and lexicographer Johann Gottfried Walther; this suggests that Lämmerhirt blood may have been important for the musical talents of Johann Sebastian.[1]
