Manindra Agrawal (Hindi: मणीन्द्र अग्रवाल) (born 20 May 1966 in Allahabad) to educators Mr. Surendra P.Agarwal and Mrs. Himanshu B.Agarwal, is a Professor and Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. He obtained a B.Tech and Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. His advisor was Dr. Somenath Biswas.
He co-created the AKS primality test with Neeraj Kayal and Nitin Saxena, and won the 2002 Clay Research Award, the 2006 Fulkerson Prize, and the 2006 Gödel Prize (along with his co-authors). This is the first deterministic algorithm to test an n-digit number for primality in a time that has been proven to be polynomial in n.
In September 2008, Manindra Agrawal was chosen for the first Infosys Mathematics Prize in association with the National Institute of Advanced Studies in India (NIAS).[1] This award is for outstanding contributions in any field of Mathematics.
