Kullervo Manner

Kullervo Manner (October 12, 1880 – January 15 Kokemäki, 1939 Pechora) was a Finnish Communist leader and national hero. Manner was a member of Social Democratic Party and a member of the parliament 1910-1917, and the speaker of the parliament prior the declaration of independence [1]. During the Finnish Civil War, Manner was the leader of the Red Guards and was made Prime Minister of the short lived Finnish Socialist Workers' Republic in early 1918.
After the failure of the Finnish Revolution, Manner fled to Soviet Russia, where he was the chairman of the Communist Party of Finland in exile from 1920 – 1935. In the 1930s, Manner became a victim of Stalin’s Great Purges, was sentenced to ten years forced labor and died in prison, officially of tuberculosis in 1939.
