Hoogvliet is a town and separate borough within Rotterdam in the Netherlands. As per January 1, 2004, it had 36,619 inhabitants.
Hoogvliet is a former village in South Holland. The village was first mentioned on May 26, 1326 in the archive of the heren van Putten & Strijen inv. nr. 144. The village used to be called Oedenvliet, Oudenvliet and Odenvliet. It was a separate municipality between 1817 and 1934, when it merged with Rotterdam.[1]
