Football League Third Division North Cup

The Football League Third Division North Cup was a knockout competition open to teams competing in Division 3 (North) of The Football League. The competition was first held in 1934 and ran until league football was suspended during World War II.[1]

In the 1945-46 season, as the Football League went through the transitional season between wartime and a return to peacetime football the following campaign, much of the second half of the season was taken up with the Division 3 North Cup. A lengthy qualifying competition was followed by four rounds of two-legs, ending with Rotherham United facing Chester City in the final. The sides drew 2-2 at Millmoor, before Rotherham won the return 3-2 at Sealand Road in front of 12,680. The competition was never played again.
