Enrique Aguirre Cabañas (born Madrid, 1949) is a Spanish obstetrician and gynecologist that in 1976 discovered cervical cancer[citation needed].
Aguirre also discovered that this cancer is produced by a virus (HPV)[citation needed].
Aguirre is a descendant of Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer, by his mother, Carmen Cabañas Bécquer.
