The 1905 FA Cup Final was contested by Aston Villa and Newcastle United at Crystal Palace. Aston Villa won 2–0, with Harry Hampton scoring both goals. The players in the photo are (left to right): Alf Hall(Villa) Jack Carr(Newcastle) Harry Hampton(Villa) Joe Bache(Villa) Jimmy Lawrence(Newcastle goalkeeper in cap) Andy McCombie(Newcastle).The match had only started two minutes when this goal was scored.There were over 100,000 spectators, some of whom can be seen clinging to the trees in the background.They seem to defy gravity as they watch the action.Hampton scored again as Villa took the Cup.Newcastle's consolation was that they finished the season as League Champions.
